AUGUST 2025 letter - morning routine
create a new morning routine for yourself, to change your life
Why is a set morning routine so important to me? It sets my state of mind for the day, Who do I want to be today. If I am creating a new life, then I want to start my day as the new me, every single day.
I usually wake up early as I want to have this me-time every morning. I lie on my bed for a short while and examine how my body feels - I listen to the state of my body and mind. I never look at my phone, open facebook, messages or emails, they can wait until this internal work is done first. I actively look for positive things to think about, gratitude is a good way to do this.
The first thing I do each morning after getting up, is to meditate. I sit down, leave the lights off and give myself enough time to do this. I enjoy it , it helps me set the mood and my intentions for the day ahead.
After my meditation, I enjoy a cup of coffee as the rest of my family are still asleep. This is such a relaxing time for me, my mornings. After my coffee, I move my body somehow, either in doors, or I go out. Usually this is a pilates session, or a brisk walk. When I have done my exercise, I have a shower. I include a 1-1,5 min. cold shower at the end, to increase my energy. If possible (when travelling or staying with a friend), I go for a quick swim in the sea. This cold swim has the same health effects, but feels even better because of the connection with nature when swimming in the sea.
After all this, I am ready too start my work for that day.
This is my morning routine that has changed my life. It helps me focus my thoughts and energy to those things that serve me best, help me focus on my future. I connect with my heart and intuition. My morning routine brings balance to everything else in my life and helps even on those difficult days when fear or worry tries to get hold of my mind or I feel overly stressed or overwhelmed. This is the reason I keep doing this, even on those days when I don’t feel like it.
Do you have a morning routine, that helps you start your day from a good place? What does balance mean to you? I see balance as a connection between our body, mind and environment. We feel in balance when our body is working and our mind is calm. From this place we are in touch with our own inner power, our life. We are surrounded by a positive energy and vibration and everything is possible from that state of being.
Saying that, we all know that even though we know what would bring us to balance, or at least closer to it, doing the work towards it, or sticking to a routine like this can still be surprisingly challenging. Life happens all the time, we ‘don't have time’ and postpone these important measures, even though we know very well that it is not what’s best for us. The most important thing is to notice these patterns, become aware of them, and then change them.
Most of the time, the problem is that we all allow our outer world to control how we think and feel inside. But what we focus on, increases as it is getting all our energy, so if it is a certain problem, worry or what ever else it is that causes us stress, then do we want to give this person or situation our energy? No! To be able to change or focus then, we would have to see beyond these current conditions, focus on our goals instead. Every single day. This requires overcoming our habits, these automatic things we do without even thinking about them. If our habit is, for example, complaining or judging ourselves or others, or lack of time, it is important to become aware of this. And then change it. We can otherwise get stuck in these negative feelings of and as certain thoughts and behaviours are just addictive as other things, for example sugar (there all cause chemical changes in the body we get addicted to), it can be very difficult to change them. When we realise this and change our thoughts and focus, it becomes easier to change.
This is why we so often have to learn the hard way, when we have to face consequences, such as health challenges. But why wait for this to happen to wake you up when you can return to balance now. What I am saying is that you need to become aware of your old habits and thought, for example when your mind is telling you that you don’t have time to meditate or exercise. and then look beyond this and do it anyway. This is overcoming yourself and as you keep going on, it gets easier and easier. It is like peeling an onion, one layer at a time. Once you remove a layer, there is often something new to work underneath. But keep going and overcoming yourself and you can see your life change.
Remember that every thought leads to some kind of reaction at the cellular level, causes the nervous system to react and something changes as a result in the body. So thoughts create our reality - literally, affecting and vibrating energetically within us. However, I'm not saying that our thoughts directly make us sick, as the body and the mind and their connection is multifactorial. I do not belittle or look down on any medical condition or claim that it can be cured by the power of thought, but I feel that even when living with an illness, you can help your body and mind and thus experience a more balanced and best possible life, as it is in that moment. Here too, letting go comes into the picture and enables life to flow more freely without any bitterness, blame or anger.
Negative emotions are not bad, they are normal and crying cleans and releases, helps us in getting over painful things and move on. It is one means of channeling energy and understanding the body. It is just a question of not letting these emotions become a habit, but learning to let go and change them. When we free ourselves from the limitations of certain emotions, we feel lighter and we make space for something new to come into our lives. Allow yourself to feel all the emotions that are part of our human experience, all of them, don't bury or numb them. Sit down with yourself, with these emotions, meditate or just be and observe youself, without judging or analyzing. You will learn a lot about yourself.
Living in balance has become one of the values of my life, and invest my time in it. The morning routine that has changed everything for me is at the center of it. It is a choice that allows me to find my balance every day. Everyone finds their own balance in their own way. For me, it is this freedom of movement, freedom to feel joy and gratitude in my life, feeling the vitality in my body, my life force, joy, flow, the experience of connection and love and a sense of security within me. When feeling like this, I hear my body's messages clearly, I can give my body the nourishment or movement it needs, I feel that I am present and in my own strength, trusting my future and myself. I feel that in a state of balance anything is possible, I have this inner feeling that everything is ok, all the time, regardless of my outer environment.
Many people ask me about breakfast and I have to say that I am not a ‘breakfast person’, I usually don’t eat breakfast. My coffee (often with cream) is my only breakfast. Sometimes I have breakfast later in the morning, especially if I have done heavier exercise that morning, I might feel hungry. If I do, I eat. Those days my common breakfast is either yoghurt with berries and/or nuts, eggs in some form, or a macha latte.
I’ll share my ‘odd’ favourite breakfast here; I have picked it up from someone else’s blog or podcast, I cannot remember where, but once I tried this the first time, I loved it.
It is a bowl of full fat natural live yoghurt, with small pieces/wedges of red grapefruit, crumbles walnuts and some extra virgin olive oil. This is so healthy, and good. It sounds weird, I know, but I can promise you that this combination is very good.
